MARY A. PATERSON, PH.D., M.S.N. Dr. Paterson is a registered nurse, professor and the project director for the CDC Academic Partnership project with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She also serves as the director for assessment and evaluation at The Catholic University School of Nursing where she a full professor teaching graduate courses in health finance, policy, and advanced quantitative methods.. She holds the Ph.D. degree in Health Services and Policy Analysis from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus in finance and a Master’s Degree in nursing administration from Georgetown University. Dr. Paterson has held faculty appointments at the University of Nevada School Of Medicine and the College of Health Sciences, and at Oregon State University. She has also served as a practice manager in the international health division of Abt Associates, a private consulting firm with offices in Boston and Washington, D.C. Dr. Paterson is the author of over 35 referred publications and a new book in healthcare finance and financial management that has just been published. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Population Health and Strategic Planning Committee for the Holy Cross Health System in Maryland. Dr. Paterson has also been appointed as the AACN representative to the Council on Linkages between Academia and Public Health Practice, a coalition of twenty organizations seeking to improve the public health workforce in the United States. Dr. Paterson has served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps Reserves and has assisted the U.S. Agency for International Development and the World Bank in health systems strengthening projects in Albania, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Russia and many former Soviet-bloc countries.
