Mary Settegast May 27, 1934 - August 24, 2020 In her own words: Born in Houston, educated at Berkeley and Columbia, I did not begin writing until I was in my forties, at which time I became fascinated by the site of Catalhoyuk and moved to England to study with the late James Mellaart, the original excavator of the site. After writing several non-fiction books, I have allowed myself a fictionalized imagination of how life itself might have been lived in late seventh millennium Catalhoyuk (The Bear, the Bull, and the Child of Light), as Ian Hodder’s new excavation techniques are everywhere overturning our older assumptions about this amazing settlement.
