Matt Cardin is an author, editor, and independent scholar known for his writings on the intersection of religion, horror, creativity, and the numinous unknown. His books include the weird horror fiction collection To Rouse Leviathan, the essay collection What the Daemon Said, and, as editor, Born to Fear: Interviews with Thomas Ligotti, plus reference works on the history of horror literature, the scientific and scholarly study of the paranormal, and the phenomenon of mummies and mummification in history, religion, and popular culture. He is a college vice president, a former professor of English and religion, and a lifelong pianist with a Ph.D. in leadership studies and a master's degree in religious studies. His work has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award, shortlisted for the Bram Stoker Award, recommended for the British Fantasy Award, and praised by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Asimov's Science Fiction, Rue Morgue, and more. He writes the online newsletter The Living Dark, about creativity and life purpose at the intersection of nonduality and the daemon muse. A native of the Missouri Ozarks who spent a dozen years in Texas, he now resides in Northern Arkansas.
