Maurice Hines

About the author

Maurice Hines is an author, educator, librarian, and community servant. He recently completed his third master’s degree in Arab and Islamic Civilizations at the American University in Cairo, where he also serves as a reference and instruction librarian. His thesis was titled, "Interpretatio Islamica and the Unraveling of the Ancient Sabian Mysteries." His first master’s is in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers, which he earned in Sudan from the Khartoum International Institute for Arabic Language. He also holds a second master’s in Library and Information Science from North Carolina Central University. He has instructed Arabic at various institutions of higher learning, such as Elon University and Zaytuna College, and served as Arabic Project Director at Bennett College from 2012 to 2014. He has also worked in libraries and archives, such as the Southern Historical Collection (UNC- Chapel Hill), NC State Archives, and NC Biotech Center. His interests range from archival work and African American history to Arabic teaching pedagogy, information literacy and ancient Near Eastern history. He is the author of Oral Histories for Muslim Communities, the Maurchives blog, as well as the Arabic language blog Turjuman al-Asr.
