In 2007, Melissa met her future husband while taking a salsa dancing class in New York City. By 2013, they were married and began their family. When the world slowed down in 2020, Melissa focused on creating a home library for her children filled with DEI books. As she searched, she realized there were no children's books that represented her diverse family—Asian and Black. One evening in October 2020, she was inspired to write "A Family Full of Love." Over the next three years, Melissa connected with numerous individuals in both traditional and self-publishing. Balancing her full-time job and parenting two young children made the idea of self-publishing seem daunting. She submitted her manuscript to a few publishers that accepted unsolicited manuscripts but faced rejections or silence in return. Believing wholeheartedly in her story's importance, she refused to give up. In December 2023, she made the decision to self-publish!
