Mely Martínez was born and raised in the coastal city of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She worked as a rural elementary school teacher for several years in the south of Mexico. After she married, she got to live in and travel through many of the states in Mexico. Her curiosity always led her to the local markets, in order to learn more about the regional cuisines. In 2008, Mely started blogging on her website Mexico in My Kitchen, which she created with the intention of preserving traditional Mexican recipes for her son. Today, Mexico in My Kitchen shares authentic recipes with food lovers around the world, including Mexican immigrants who miss the flavors of their country. Besides writing for her website, Mely enjoys traveling and gardening, as well as attending seminars, festivals, and other events related to Mexican culture and gastronomy. She also serves as a consultant to chefs and restaurateurs around the world. She lives in Dallas, TX.
