Merana Cadorette has been an artist ‘since she received her first crayon’. In high school, she became fascinated with hand-sculpting small figures in clay, hand-painting and detailing the bisque-fired pieces. She won her first major award, Best in Show, Ocean State Ceramics with a sculpture done her Senior year. She continued with the small sculptures, until she went to college. There, she branched out into watercolors and acrylics. Always up for a challenge, Ms. Cadorette took on commissions from a 24’ x 150’ background mural, as well as participating in group and solo shows in the greater Orlando, FL area. She and her daughter took a bronze casting course. With her family (and occasionally a Scout troop), she’s made several trips to Europe, inspiring a small collection of watercolors. Other family outings were to airshows, museums and Scouting events. Her other interest is collecting and sharing Girl Scout memorabilia. In 1999, as one of a series of intricate watercolors featuring a kaleidoscope/quilt layout of various items became an official GSUSA poster. For the past 20 years, Vero Beach, FL has been home…sort of. Ms. Cadorette’s husband had three stints working in Savannah, GA. While there, she focused on watercolor images of the city’s historic district. 28 painting were published in the History Press “Gates of Savannah” book, along with research and commentary by the artist. Their home in Florida is a joint ongoing project showcasing her exterior and interior painting and hand-made architectural tile work alongside her husband’s fine woodworking skills. Ms. Cadorette has exhibited her pieces in all the states she lived in, as well as in Seattle, WA; Oshkosh WI and the San Diego Museum. In addition to a collection of Savannah art, she has explored several different themes. There’s aviation art (American Society of Aviation Art shows), orchids (she worked with a conservatory), cloudscapes, landscapes, mindscapes, family and her current muse: their grandson. She has been pleased and honored to receive several awards over the years. Recently, she began entering international online juried shows. She’s exhibited in an exhibit with the National Oil and Acrylics Painters Society; placed 4th in the 2019 American Art Awards, 25 Best Galleries: ‘Impressionism–Human’ category and began 2020 with an 8th place painting, 10th place overall in the LightSpaceTime All Women's show. She is a Lifetime Member of the Vero Beach Art Club, Girl Scouts of the USA. During “lock-down”, 3 commissions and other paintings were done, 2 of which placed in LightSpaceTime’s “Art in Isolation” exhibit (2020). Currently, she is moving her artwork to the digital platform FineArtAmerica, https://merana-cadorette.pixels.com to be accessible and market during these crazy times. Previously, she published a book “Your First Year” of acrylic paintings of her grandson’s birth to first birthday, also available in Turkish. To end 2020, she has recently completed another book: “A Brief History of Dragons”, featuring 18 of her detailed pen & ink drawings. It is available on Amazon.
