Michael Anthony Abril, Ph.D. was raised in the Mexican-American community of Phoenix, Arizona. Driven by a curiosity about the natural world and a thirst for intellectual understanding, he eagerly absorbed scientific knowledge in fields such as physics, biology, and computer science. However, his fascination with the most profound questions about existence, purpose, and meaning led him in a new direction. Dr. Abril dove into the study of theology, earning a B.A. and M.A. from the Franciscan University of Steubenville and an M.T.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Nevertheless, his early curiosity about scientific questions remains, and it forms the background of his impressive work toward understanding and expanding the relationship between science and Christian theology. His extensive research explores the philosophical, scientific, and theological heritage that forms today the question of how our knowledge and approach to the natural world and its processes interrelates to our knowledge and relationship with the divine. Examining the substantial history of attempts to interrelate these by way of the doctrine of evolution, he seeks to explain in an approachable, informative, and critical manner how such approaches are both promising and challenging in order to lay the groundwork for future innovation.
