Michael Hoffen is the youngest-ever recipient of the annual Emerson Prize, awarded by the Concord Review for outstanding promise in history. Michael was introduced to the joys of translating ancient texts in middle school, and he has never looked back. During the pandemic, Michael decided to embark on an ambitious project to bring ancient Egyptian literature to life outside the classroom. Be A Scribe! is his first book in a series intended for young readers. It has thus far won four awards: The Nonfiction Authors Association Gold Award, Winner of the 2024 Storytrade Book Award (Children/Middle Grade Nonfiction), Winner of the 21st Annual Best Book Awards by American Book Fest (Children’s Educational), and 1st Place Winner for Children (4th-6th Genre) in the 2024 PenCraft Book Awards for Literary Excellence. When Michael is not chasing down new stories to translate, he enjoys biking, swimming, and rock climbing. He lives with his family in New York.
