My psychoanalytic career has included the study of some of the unusual and extraordinary ways in which the human mind works. My clinical practice has included extensive work with persons suffering from severe psychosis. My theoretical interests span not only severe mental illness, but also the development of mind in infancy and childhood, the formation of a sense of self, the relationship between culture and personality, the creative process, the nature of consciousness, dreaming, and linguistics. In my writings I have attempted to synthesize this knowledge and to create a comprehensive model of two conscious mental processes, primordial consciousness and reflective representational thought, and their respective languages. For many years I was Clinical Professor of Psychiatry on the faculties of the Harvard and UCSF medical schools and Senior Psychiatrist on the staff of McLean Hospital. Currently I live and practice in Amherst, Massachusetts. Visit my Wikipedia page at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_D._Robbins
