Mika Laitinen writes about traditional ales and old brewing tales and traditions. His articles on Nordic farmhouse ales have appeared in several beer and brewing magazines, among them Brew Your Own and Zymurgy, and he writes about local Nordic beer culture on his Web site www.brewingnordic.com. Since 1998, he has crafted hundreds of homebrews, many of them to test how various farmhouse methods work in practice or explore how people brewed in ages past. Thanks to a plethora of brewing successes and failures, he has gained hands-on awareness for teaching how to brew ancient ales. Laitinen is a native of Finland living right on the doorstep of the sahti heartland, where traditional farmhouse ale culture remains strong. His favorite way of passing his time is by chatting, brewing, and drinking with farmhouse brewers, all the while collecting stories, recipes, and photos from a beer culture that has disappeared from most parts of Europe.
