Mohamed Kheir Omer was born in 1952, at an important junction of Eritrean history when Eritrea was federated to Ethiopia and grew up in western Eritrea where the liberation movement started. From an early age he was a member of the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF). The author is an Eritrean-Norwegian and has a doctorate in Veterinary Science from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. He has published several scientific articles, in international journals, in his field. Among other positions he served as the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Aquatic Sciences, at the University of Asmara, Eritrea 1992 – 1996. He was a member of a group of Eritrean academicians called the “G 13” who wrote an open letter to the President of Eritrea in 2000, calling for democratic reforms. “Asmara: Pictorial Book 1890-1938.”
