Dr. Tinawi is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University Affiliated Hospitals in East Lansing, Michigan where he also served as an acting chief medical resident. He completed a fellowship in Nephrology at Saint Louis University Hospital under the directorship of Dr. Kevin Martin. Dr. Tinawi has published in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals and lectured extensively on different topics related to kidney diseases on local, regional, national, and international levels. Along with his mentor Dr. Bahar Bastani, he published a mathematical approach to severe hyponatremia and hypernatremia in renal replacement therapies in Seminars in Dialysis. Dr. Tinawi is a practicing nephrologist in Northwest Indiana who provided renal care in a variety of clinical settings. Dr. Tinawi served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Michigan State University from 2004 to 2009. He is currently an adjunct clinical assistant professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine Northwest-Gary. Dr. Tinawi is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. He has been a medical director for a large-chain dialysis facility in East Chicago, IN for several years.
