Originally from Calcutta (now known as Kolkata), India, I am a graduate in Economics from Presidency College, Calcutta and completed my MBA from FMS Delhi, Delhi University. I continued my professional development in London and completed my Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), London. I am also a qualified Mortgage & Stock Broker, having completed CeMAP & CeRER from The London Institute of Banking & Finance and Registered Representative Certifications in Securities and Derivatives from The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), respectively. Starting my career with American Express Bank in India, I have engaged with multiple business models in several jurisdictions, ranging from global behemoths like HSBC, American Express, Emirates NBD, Santander, and family-owned businesses to one-person bands. I have also had the opportunity to run my consultancy firm in Dubai, where I worked and lived for about a decade. I am keen to share this experience and my overall 30 years of association in that region with my readers. I hope that it can make an informed difference to their lives in that city, whether they already live there or plan to make Dubai their home in the foreseeable future. It might also make sense to read my book even if you plan to take a brief trip to that city and region, even if it is as short as changing flights in Dubai for another destination. I currently live and work in London. On the third anniversary of the publication of this book, I am updating this profile. I feel vindicated about what I have written. I did not have a magic crystal to predict the COVID, but I did correctly enough what could happen to foreigners living in Dubai should there be a black swan event in their lives. Please do not treat this book as a negative or a positive discourse on Dubai but as a short and long term Dubai strategy guide to help you make the most and best of what Dubai offers whilst keeping safe. After all, it is easier to make your wealth and far challenging to retain it in the long term, especially in a 'happening' place like Dubai. In essence, I have discussed in great depth Dubai's DNA, and that is not something that is about to change very soon. For those of my heavy-hitting readers who are getting ready to invest millions in Dubai, it might make sense to research the events related to the following four firms. It is a small sample size, but it will clarify issues around governance in that region. I could not include these in my book because they happened after the publication of my book. They are : 1. Arabtec (the firm behind the construction of Burj Khalifa) 2.B R Shetty(the founder of NMC Health, Finablr etc.) & 3. Abraj Capital & Al Masah Capital –Private Equity firms. I will take this opportunity to thank all my readers. Would you please follow me on Twitter @SUJIT40S? I will continue to share and analyse information about Dubai and the neighbouring region, again with a deep desire to make a difference to people who plan to deal with that region. If you have any special projects in mind, please feel free to DM me. Before I sign-off ,let me present two reviews about the book, from as far afield as India and Canada 1.From XYHC , Canada A Must-Read for Dubai Dreamers! Reviewed in Canada on 8 July 2021 Verified Purchase Just got this book today. Good quality and all. The book features many insights that are hard to acquire from the outside and provides highly informative observations on Dubai's social, political, and economic states. These are definitely things anyone (myself included) who seek to pursue a living/career/investment in Dubai should learn of beforehand. This will give you a unique perspective to better assess your plans and decisions. 2.Reviewed in India on 19 June 2019,by drmillind2004 This is an extremely well-written, no-nonsense account of the real Dubai. It is a sobering guide for all the starry eyed folk who look up to Dubai as some kind of magical tree that rains down money incessantly. This book is an essential read, an integral part of your due diligence, if you plan to take up a job, or open a business, in Dubai. Thank you ever so much XYHC and drmillind2004.You have described and summarised the book and its purpose far better than I could as its author. So thank you and all my readers once again.
