Mylene Leumin was born in Claveria, Cagayan, a beautiful coastal town in the northern Philippines. Growing up surrounded by rainforest and nature of magnificent scenery helped in the shaping of her imagination. From a young age, she had the ambition to move to the city to pursue her degree in Nursing. With her desire to explore life outside of her country, she lived in New Zealand for seven years and eventually settled in Florida, USA. With writing and arts as her creative talents, she is combining these two to create a series of unique tales and stories that speak of her culture as a Filipino. Her first publication in magazines written in English was at age 21, then she became a freelance writer for Philippine magazines until the age of 24. In 2007, she studied writing courses in the U.S. to earn her diploma in Writing for Children and Teenagers. The Tales of POTOS (Pearl of the Orient Seas) books are her collection of tales where each book features an animal character that mythically tells how the animal earned its distinguishing attribute. What separate her books from the rest, are the rich moral lessons that can be learned from each story and the mixing of a fable and a myth in one. Still working as a Critical Care Nurse, Mylene Leumin also precepts ICU Nurse interns and Nursing students. She advocates local charities by running their half-marathons and long races. She has raised two adult children and is raising a teenage son in the warm Florida sunshine.
