Mr. Bolton has more than 34 years of experience in heavy construction, landfill and recycling operations. His background in heavy construction includes work in excavating, grading, paving, land-clearing, and underground projects where he worked as a laborer, equipment operator, foreman, superintendent, and estimator. He has considerable experience working in steep, mountainous areas in regard to road construction, road maintenance, erosion control/drainage systems, tree removal, (felling, bucking, etc.) and general land clearing. In 1988, Mr. Bolton formed his own consulting company – Blue Ridge Services. As principal of Blue Ridge, he has continued to provide operational consulting services for a wide range of private and municipal solid waste/recycling facilities, landfills transfer stations, surface mine reclamation and construction projects. He has also worked on numerous mine development/reclamation projects. Mr. Bolton has worked on landfill siting, expansion and closure projects and has broad experience on projects where protection of sensitive habitat/environment was a key issue. He has performed consulting, speaking and training projects in 38 states in the US and abroad. Mr. Bolton has written 2 books and over 200 articles/papers. Under his direct supervision, his company has also produced 130 training/safety videos on topics ranging from "Poisonous Snakes" to "Bulldozer Safety" to "Working on Steep Slopes." He has pioneered the use of various industrial productivity improvement tools, such as Six Sigma and Lean to the area of heavy (construction) equipment operation in the waste/recycling industry. Mr. Bolton also holds a commercial driver's license and interagency emergency equipment operator card for CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service.
