关于作者

I am a medical anthropologist and Professor of Anthropology at Southern Methodist University focused on researching and writing in ways that might help people who are struggling with serious emotional distress and those who are trying to help them. My work is motivated by my own family's struggles with the challenging mental health system in the US. I am passionately committed to improving mental health care and critically evaluating what constitutes care. I am also the Editor in Chief of Culture, Medicine and Psychiatry and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UT-Southwestern Medical School. I have had nearly continuous funding for my research from the National Institutes of Health since 2009. At home, I am married to my best friend and have two children and a cat and dog. I love to hike and play the fiddle.
