Nicholas Hodgson was born in New Zealand during the same week the original Star Wars movie hit cinemas, so it’s no surprise he grew up with his head in the stars and his nose in a book. The first movie he remembers seeing was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial—and he still vividly recalls worrying the kid on the flying bike was in for serious trouble. As a child, Nicholas devoured The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Enid Blyton's adventures, and countless Asterix comics, all of which fueled his love of storytelling. By the time he hit school, he was scribbling down his own tales—most of them terrible but always imaginative. When he wasn’t writing, he was watching Monty Python sketches, singing along to The Beatles, or hoping to become a filmmaker (growing up down the road from Peter Jackson probably helped). Life eventually led him across the ditch to Australia, where he became an English and history teacher—perfect for someone who loves a good story and a groan-worthy joke. Nicholas now lives with his wonderful family, two dogs, and a love of all things timey-wimey in rural New South Wales, where he writes stories that prove history can be hilarious, adventurous, and occasionally smell like cheese toasties.
