Nicole Johnsey Burke is on a mission to bring back the kitchen garden to make gardening an ordinary, daily part of people’s lifestyle once again. A self-taught gardener, Nicole has inspired millions of others to start growing a little bit of their own food. Nicole has written three books (Kitchen Garden Revival, 2020; Leaves, Roots and Fruit: A Step-by-Step Guide to Planting an Organic Kitchen Garden, 2022; The 5-Minute Gardener: Year-Round Garden Habits for Busy People, 2025) and publishes daily to the Gardenary blog and social media platforms, notably Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Youtube, where she offers entertaining content, personal stories and advice to help people start gardening at any scale. Since starting her first company, Rooted Garden, a full service garden design and installation business in Houston, TX in 2015, Nicole has designed and created over 500 kitchen gardens and has helped countless clients discover the joy of gardening. In 2017, she founded Gardenary, Inc., an online platform dedicated to empowering and educating gardeners across all skill levels which has amassed an audience of more than 2 million engaged followers. Through Gardenary, over 1,500 garden consultants have been trained and certified in Nicole’s accessible gardening methods, and thousands more students have learned to set up, tend and garden through Gardenary’s vast library of resources, online classes, and top-of-the-line garden supplies. Today, with more than 7,500 students enrolled in her Kitchen Garden Academy and Garden Consultant Certification programs, Nicole’s vision of a global kitchen garden revival continues to grow, bringing people into the healthiest and happiest versions of themselves through the benefits of gardening and the satisfaction of growing even just a little bit of their own food.
