Nydia Armendia-Sánchez

Nydia Armendia-Sánchez is a children’s book author based in California. Her debut picture book is NOT FAR FROM HERE, Candlewick Press. Her sophomore picture book, FRIDA KAHLO’S FLOWER CROWN: A Picture Book, Abrams Young Readers, releases April 1st, 2025, and her third book, MY HUIPIL, also with Candlewick Press, is set to launch in 2026. In 2020, Nydia was a We Need Diverse Books ~ Walter Grant Finalist, and in 2021, she was Sustainable Arts Foundation awardee in the “Illustrated Children’s Book” category. Her storytelling is inspired by her children as well as her Guatemalan and Basque roots. Nydia strives for inclusivity and diversity in all her creative endeavors.
