Pablo Miguel Sierra Silva is Associate Professor of History at the University of Rochester, where he teaches courses on Mexican, Latin American and Atlantic History. He also teaches on Modern Latin America and the History of Sport. His research is especially focused on the African Diaspora during the seventeenth century. His first book, Urban Slavery in Colonial Mexico (2018), examines distinct spaces of slavery in the city of Puebla during the long seventeenth century. It is also provides the first book-length examination the domestic and trans-Atlantic slave trade to the Puebla slave market. Sierra Silva's second major research project, "In the Wake of the Raid" focuses on the dispersal of 1,500 captives of African descent from the port of Veracruz after the buccaneer raid of 1683. The project entwines the history of Mexico, South Carolina and Haiti.
