Pamela Lowell, has spent her career as a psychotherapist tending to the people whom she thought most needed healing: the traumatized, the depressed, the grief-stricken and adolescents in placements or foster care. She has also written several books in different genres, two young adult novels, a parenting book and in 2017, she even co-edited a humorous cookbook! Turning to her passions for birding, art, and the environment, she started to envision how to combine all three and help contribute to what needs healing most of all: our Mother Earth. She decided to begin painting large watercolors of Ospreys, their nests, and platforms, and donate them to local nature organizations to use as fundraisers. Last summer, she jumped at the chance to accompany Mass Audubon in their weekly Osprey nest monitoring project on the Westport River. She initially thought she'd get some photos of cute Osprey chicks to use in her paintings—but she got so much more out of the adventure than she ever could have imagined! Lowell is an astute observer of both human behavior and the natural world. In her latest book, My Summer with Ospreys, she weaves together observations and personal experiences into a humorous and exciting narrative as a passenger on the Lucky Me along with the scientists of Mass Audubon, and a cast of dedicated volunteers. With original watercolor illustrations throughout, her journey towards hope, community and healing our planet is one that can inspire us all to be better stewards of our ever-changing world.
