Panos Y. Papalambros is a professor of engineering at the University of Michigan where he has been teaching since he graduated from Stanford University in 1979. His early education in Greece has rounded out his perspective in addressing a global audience. A mechanical engineer by training, he also holds appointments in integrative systems and design, art and design, and in architecture and urban planning. As an educator, he has been recognized with the Design Automation Award, Machine Design Award, Joel and Ruth Spira Outstanding Design Educator Award, Robert Abbott Award, and the Ben C. Sparks Medal by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; and with the Ralph Coats Roe Award by the American Society of Engineering Education. He holds the James B. Angel Distinguished University Professor Chair and the Donald C. Graham Chair in Engineering at the University of Michigan. He has served as President of the Design Society and past Chief Editor of the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Design Science Journal.
