She authors books and journal articles in the areas of nursing theory, feminism and nursing, the art of nursing, and nursing education. Her current focus for activism is the Nurse Manifest Project, a web-based project (www.nursemanifest.com) to inspire grass-roots action by nurses to shape the future of nursing and health care. She nurtures peace and tranquility in daily living by playing the harp, quilting, drumming and chanting and meditative walking.
