Peter Fleming was born in 1946 in Peterborough, England. At Fulbridge Road Junior School his teacher identified a capacity to write but is has taken some sixty years before a book has finally emerged. After attending Deacon's Grammar School Peter completed an apprenticeship at Baker Perkins, a major employer in Peterborough at that time. He then worked for British Steel just outside Sheffield, specialising in hydraulics and pneumatics. Encouraged by his then wife, Maureen, Peter moved to the British Aircraft Corporation to provide technical assistance on a Rapier missile support contract in Iran. It was after this period and a couple of years back in BAC in Stevenage that Peter moved to Oman, which is the start point for his book. He left BAC and Oman in order to travel in his Land Rover and this was followed by a time with Sperry Sun International and a new career as an oilwell surveyor in Saudi Arabia and the North Sea. Wanting a more stable lifestyle with new wife, Claire, it was back to BAC (now British Aerospace) and a Rapier contract in Indonesia followed by a short period in Brunei. After many years back in the UK, Peter and Claire moved to Australia where they ran a macadamia farm for 10 years before finally retiring to New Zealand in mid 2015 to be near son Mark and his wife Nicola.
