Peter Johnson

A lifelong resident of Leicester, Peter Johnson was was a local government officer for 30 years before taking early retirement in 1999. His first book, Rails in Wales - the Cambrian Lines, was published by Ian Allan Publishing in 1984. His book on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway is his sixth title for Pen & Sword Transport. From 1991 until 2019 he compiled a narrow gauge railways news column for one of the mainstream railway magazines. Writing and researching on a fulltime basis since 2006, he made a significant contribution to the Oxford Publishing Company's popular 'Illustrated History' series with four books well-received books on Welsh railways and one on travelling post offices. In 2013 he joined the ranks of Shire Publishing's authors, with the publication of a book on narrow gauge railways. His first two books for Pen & Sword Transport, on the Festiniog Railway, were published in 2017.
