Phillip Hamilton is Professor of History at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. He is the author/editor of four books, including The Revolutionary War Lives and Letters of Lucy and Henry Knox, The Making and Unmaking of a Revolutionary Family: the Tuckers of Virginia, 1752-1830, and Justifying Revolution: Law, Virtue and Violence in the American War of Independence, which he co-edited with Glenn A. Moots. He grew up outside New York City and attended Gettysburg College. He earned his doctorate in history from Washington University in St. Louis and has taught at Christopher Newport University since 2002. He is currently writing a biography of the Revolutionary War general, Henry Knox.
