I've been talking to your kids. As sinister as that sounds, it's true. Moreover, I get paid to do it. Every year, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, nonprofits and foundations pay me to interview, survey and otherwise study your kids to find out what they like and what they dislike, what they fear and what they hope for, and generally why they do what they do. As a result, I've learned some things about children and adolescents, and a lot of what I've learned flies in the face of what pop magazines and television morning shows would have us believe. The truth is that most adults do not take the time to really get to know kids, either as individuals or as a population. Moreover, we adults do very little to help kids get to know us. I write in an attempt to change that.
