Ramona Nelson

Ramona Nelson PhD, BC-RN, ANEF, FAAN holds a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Duquesne University and a master's degree in both nursing and information science, as well as a PhD in education from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to her current position as president of her own consulting company, Ramona was Professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing at Slippery Rock University. Since the early 1980’s Dr. Nelson has focused her many presentations, research and publications in the specialty of health informatics. Her last book Health Informatics: An Interprofessional Approach, writen with Nancy Staggers was published in 2017. Her primary area of interest within informatics is the use of technology to inform and empower patients/consumers. Because of her contributions to nursing and health informatics she was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing; was inducted in the first group of fellows in the NLN Academy of Nursing Education and was recognized as a pioneer within the discipline by the American Medical Informatics Association.
