Rand Cardwell has viewed the world through the eyes of a trained military observer with a poetic heart. Those experiences pour out in his writing and poetry. He resides in East Tennessee. Some of Rand’s poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in SLAB, El Portal, Evening Street Review, DASH Literary Journal, and Visitant. His non-fiction book has been published by Tuttle. He enjoys frozen margaritas, trout fishing, wordsmithing, two amazing grandchildren, and the love of a very special lady. Books Rand’s first book was self-published in 2003. The Western Bubishi, was well-received by martial artists worldwide. Due to popular demand, the second printing of this book is now available on Amazon.com. After the urging of several friends, he contacted a publisher in 2018 and the title was chosen for publication. With over fifteen years of additional insight and further research, The 36 Deadly Bubishi Points is a much deeper examination of his initial self-published effort. It is available in both paperback and Kindle versions on Amazon.com. Poetry Rand has had a long passion for creative writing and has been writing poetry for three decades. Until recently he has been apprehensive about publishing his work, but has finally relented and has submitted work to numerous poetry publishers for consideration. His poetry has appeared in or is forthcoming in SLAB, El Portal, Evening Street Review, DASH Literary Journal, and Visitant. One of the methods he is exploring is particular style of poetry that he calls “Binary Poetry”, which is a reductionist style of two words per line that still manage to express his poetic vision. Four examples of this method are in his breakout poetry book, Unhurried and other poems, which is available of Amazon.com. Projects Cardwell is working on several writing projects that includes an exhaustively researched book on a genealogical examination of the Cardwell family (he is considered one of the leading researchers of the surname); follow-up efforts in the martial arts genre; and the stirrings of the concept of a fiction novel. His upcoming non-fiction work about stoicism is being edited. Check back for updates. Articles In addition to his book and poetry projects, Rand writes regular articles for the website Becoming Stoic. This website is an extension of his two decades of study into stoicism and the focus on an upcoming book.
