I have been fortunate to work for incredible organisations in beautiful places including the University of Cambridge, the British Foreign Office and a unique school in the Swiss Alps. However, my favourite place has always been the greenhouse. It's where I would rush after work and spend long weekend afternoons. There's something about the smell of damp soil and watching seeds grow into plants that makes me incredibly happy. When I found a way to make a living out of what I loved, there was no looking back. Those stiff suits and pointy shoes were quickly donated to the charity shop, making wardrobe space for dungarees, muddy aprons and other practical gardening garb. I strongly believe that perishable cut flowers should be grown and sold locally. If this book inspires the creation of just a handful of new flower farms or home cutting gardens it has met its goal. Viva the flower revolution!
