
Ria Jairam, N2RJ has been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1997, having obtained her license in secondary school. She was first licensed in her native Trinidad and Tobago and then quickly obtained her FCC Extra class license after emigrating to the United States. She has been involved in many aspects of amateur radio including leadership positions in several amateur radio organizations including YLRL, ARRL and ARDC, and volunteer work particularly with developing school amateur radio clubs. She particularly enjoys contacting different countries and obtaining various amateur radio awards for doing so. Ria's YouTube channel, "Ria's Ham Shack", teaches about hot topics in amateur radio and other wireless communications technologies. She also produces a radio show - "Ria's Ham Shack" - which airs on WRMI Legends shortwave (5050 kHz) on Sundays at 10PM ET. Professionally, Ria works with Unix and Linux systems development and engineering as well as renewable energy, solar power and energy storage and is an alumna of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Professionally, Ria is an Information Security Architect and holds several industry certifications.
