Writing what he called “The Great American Novel” was Brad’s goal since childhood, but his forty year business career in the banking, petroleum, and transportation industries forced him to forestall that dream until retirement in 2010. A small 18th century cemetery in The Village of Deaton Creek, an over-55 gated community Brad and his wife of fifty-two years call home, led to the first novel, Mulberry River, a historical novel revolving around the mysterious disappearance of the Confederate treasury at the end of the Civil War. Four more novels followed, The Deaton Creek Mystery Series, cozy mysteries which take Stan Doughty, a retired FBI agent, from Deaton Creek to intriguing venues around the globe. The author has been to each locality which adds authenticity to the stories and his quirky sense of humor will make the readers smile. Brad’s most recent offering is a political mystery, A Simple Life, and yes, there is another e-book in production, due for publication in early 2024. Fifty years of Brad’s fascinating life experiences gained in both international business and extensive travel are melded into each novel and suitable for readers 12 and over.
