Richard Westra was born in Italy and educated in the United States and Canada. Since graduating with a PH.D. in political economy from Queen's University, Canada in 2001, he has built an international teaching career at universities in The Bahamas, South Korea, Thailand and Japan. He has been a visiting professor at Carleton University, Canada, visiting researcher at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and is an international Adjunct Professor at the Center for Macau Studies, University of Macau. Currently he is based in the EU at the Institute of Political Science, University of Opole, Poland.
