Rick Antonson's latest book is Slumach's Gold: In Search of a Legend - and a Curse, authored with Brian Antonson and Mary Trainer (Heritage House Publishers, 2024). Rick is the author of 5 acclaimed travel narratives: "Train Beyond the Mountains: Journeys on the Rocky Mountaineer (2023), and "To Timbuktu for a Haircut: A Journey Through West Africa," and "Route 66 Still Kicks; Driving America's Main Street," and "Full Moon Over Noah's Ark; An Odyssey to Mount Ararat and Beyond," and "Walking With Ghosts in Papua New Guinea; Crossing the Kokoda Trail in The Last Wild Place on Earth." One journalist called him a "romantic vagabond". He is the co-author of "Whistle Posts West; Railway Tales from British Columbia, Alberta and Yukon." Rick was president and CEO of Tourism Vancouver (now Destination Vancouver), is past chair of the board for Destinations International based in Washington, DC, and served as deputy chair for the Pacific Asia Tourism Association based in Bangkok, Thailand. He has spoken around the world about the multi-generational philosophy "Cathedral Thinking." Rick and his wife Janice make their home in the Okanagan Valley, Canada.
