Ricky Fishman has been a Doctor of Chiropractic since 1986, and Co-Director of Chiromedica, a holistic health care center, since 1988, where he has brought together and assimilated the work of chiropractors, medical doctors, acupuncturists, nurse practitioners, physical therapists and others. He is also a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist, working with individuals and companies to design healthy work spaces and work places. A prolific blogger, writing on all things health related, this is his first book. In "Back Pain Relief Plan," he integrates his many years of clinical experience and academic research. His philosophy of care has always been to determine the underlying cause of his patients pain, explain this to his patients, and provide them with the tools to heal themselves and prevent their pain from recurring. His use of low tech, low cost, self help tools helps to empower people to heal themselves and are described in this book. He also founded the health news and information website, "Condition: Health News That Matters," which hosts his blog and podcast, and features original, cutting edge stories by leaders in the field of integrative medicine. To complement his clinical work, Dr. Fishman was a college professor. He taught for over twenty years at New College of California; courses included “Contemporary Health Studies”, “Power, Politics, and Healing”, “History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine,” and many others. After New College he spent three years teaching “Complementary and Integrative Medicine” at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Dr. Fishman is also an electric bass player who has performed with many Bay Area bands since the punk rock days of 1970’s, San Francisco. He has a special interest in treating musicians and other performing artists. This led him to found the Musicians Chiropractic Project, a program that is dedicated to the specific healthcare needs of working artists.
