Bob Kaluza never intended to write a book; he is an oil driller. But after being sucked into the vortex of injustice that exists at the US Justice Department, he had to write a book. Deepwater Deception reveals the direct cause for the Deepwater Horizon blowout—not the one in the movie—and a perversion of justice in America. Most Americans are unaware of the systematic injustice perpetrated by deal-making between major corporations and DOJ. Prior to becoming BP’s employee sacrifice to the DOJ, Bob drilled oil and gas wells in six US states, in Russia, and in Egypt. He worked hands-on on drilling rigs at all rig positions for 17 years, 12 of those years on the North Slope of Alaska. He worked as a drilling engineer, drilling rig supervisor, field superintendent and drilling strategy manager. BP asked Bob to temporarily relieve a rig supervisor on the Deepwater Horizon for 5 days. On the last night of the temporary assignment, while he was asleep, the blowout occurred. Bob survived only to face the injustice of cooperation-for-leniency agreements between BP and the US DOJ. BP scapegoated Bob and two other employees. After being indicted for 3 years and 3 months, and after a 6-day trial, a 12-person jury in New Orleans reached a not guilty verdict in less than two hours of deliberation.
