Robert Karnes began his formal study of DanZan Ryu and later DZR Zenyo Bujutsu Martial Arts in 1981 in Sparks, Nevada USA with teacher Ginny Kitzke, Sensei. Bob was transferred to Prof. Herb LaGue, Shodai and to the Bushidokan Martial Art Dojo in 1983 as Bob’s new Sensei. In the following years, Bob was co-Sensei at the Bushidokan and later opened two schools in the USA (Montana and Nevada,) and one in Wiesbaden, Germany. With his experience in teaching, as well as his exposure to various real-world situations Bob used and improved his conflict resolution skills. In his professional career as a mental health technician, teenage boot camp worker, and forensic max security forensic specialist, allowed him to further develop his style of teaching at his Golden Sage Martial Arts School. The humane takedown, escort, and assault defense techniques found in DanZan Ryu and DZR Zenyo Bujutsu helped him in his 15 years mental health jobs to remain a therapeutic team member during the daily mental and physical challenges necessary to survive the violent working conditions. While teaching and also practicing DZR, Bob is well qualified as a licensed massage therapist, thus having the opportunity to practice the Healing arts side of the DanZan Ryu and DZR Zenyo Bujutsu Philosophy.
