关于作者

My new book SLOW RISE: A Bread-Making Adventure, is published by Particular Books/Penguin in 2021. 'The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees' was published by Penguin in October 2015 in the UK and by Norton in the USA in July 2016. It was a BBC Radio 4 'Book of the Week'; it was also shortlisted for the IBW Book Award 2016. 'It's All About the Bike: the Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels' ('Gem of a book' - Economist) was a Sunday Times bestseller in the UK. It has been translated into 15 languages. I presented the BBC4/2 documentary 'Ride of My Life: the Story of the Bicycle' ('A journey into the mindset of a bike obsessive... charming to watch' - Independent) and the BBC4 series 'Tales from the Wild Wood' ('an understated gem' - Independent). I cycled the Trans-Amazonian Highway with Freddie Flintoff to make 'Road to Nowhere', broadcast on Sky 1 in April 2014 ('Brilliant telly' - The Times). I am patron of the Small Woods Association (http://smallwoods.org.uk), an excellent organisation doing much to improve our woodland culture in Britain. As a journalist, I write for The Guardian and Observer, as well as a host of cycling and woodland publications. I have ridden a bicycle most days of my adult life, in over fifty countries on five continents. In my late-twenties, I gave up a career and pedalled around the world. I am a director of the cycle holiday company Bikecation: www.bikecation.co.uk. I live in the Black Mountains, South Wales with my wife, three children, two spaniels, twelve bicycles and a collection of axes. I bake my own bread, some of which is edible. www.robpenn.net
