Robert Philip Bolton is an independent New Zealand writer. Like many dedicated and professional writers he found it impossible to break into the small New Zealand publishing establishment. 'Thus,' he says, 'I happily publish my own books on Amazon and Kindle and sell them to loyal and satisfied readers around the world.' Bolton was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1945. After a career in advertising he began freelance writing in 1983 and has been a self-employed writer ever since. 'Retirement came along and so I gradually reduced my commercial writing to dedicate myself to my own writing,' he says. 'I publish my own work which is mostly (but not only) about New Zealand and New Zealanders.' Bolton and his wife have travelled extensively throughout New Zealand, Australia, Britain (where they lived and worked and wrote the book 'The Boltons of The Little Boltons' as a result), Europe, Asia and Japan, as well as the United States (where he worked in advertising). He is the father of two adult sons and proud grandpa of little Billy who lives in Tokyo. 'Like all writers I have always loved good writing from all eras,' he says. His other interests too lie firmly in the arts: art, music, opera, ballet and the theatre. He also enjoys playing the saxophone, the bass guitar and the ukulele. 'On the other hand I also love rugby league,' he adds. 'I have supported the Warriors since their foundation in 1995.' Bolton and his wife live in Greenlane, Auckland. He says he welcomes comments and feedback and is happy to speak about his books to schools, book clubs and writing groups within a convenient reach of Auckland.
