I live on the Isle of Wight in southern England and I'm fascinated with the Druids and King Arthur. I'm retired now, but before I retired I was teaching English and Linguistics at the University of Portsmouth, just across the Solent from the Isle of Wight. As well as being fascinated with the Druids and King Arthur, I'm also into etymology - the origins of words. I find this can be very helpful when studying the Druids and early British religion. All we have left of the distant past are what archaeologists can uncover, and the names of early gods and heroes - here the study of etymology can be a great help, and even come up with surprises (this happened when I was researching the history of the Welsh word "llys", or "court", for a new book).
