Robin Whiteplume

Robin is a life-long resident of Fremont County and Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. He started wildland firefighting in 1985 and served as a fire prevention technician with the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 2002-2009. His interest in fire began at an early age but became apparent when, with the local economy experiencing a downturn in the energy industry in the 1980's, he started firefighting with the Shoshone and Arapaho (Sho-Raps) firefighters of Wind River. Robin realized that there was a lack of published material on native American firefighters and hoped that by writing a book about his home agency fire crews that interest in native firefighters would grow to recognize their contribution to the world of wildland firefighting. This is his first book and hopes to write another book encompassing the history of all the native fire crews around North America.
