Roland Ennos is a visiting professor of biological sciences at the University of Hull. He is the author of successful textbooks on biomechanics, plants and statistics, and a popular book Trees, published by London’s Natural History Museum and currently in its third edition in both the UK and US. His recent book with Scribner and William Collins is The Age of Wood/The Wood Age, a reinterpretation of history that demonstrates humankind’s incalculable debt to wood, and The Science of Spin will be published in summer 2023.. He has had a lifelong obsession with understanding how things work, and has passions for industrial archaeology, natural history and sport; one of his proudest achievements is to have played first class rugby union, though thankfully only for ten minutes. He lives more quietly now with his partner and several hundred ferns, near Hull in East Yorkshire, England.
