Rudy Schouten’s work as a writer began many years ago in a corporate role, where he focused on developing sales and marketing material for a financial services group. He eventually applied those skills to a career as a freelance writer, providing communication services for small firms and not-for-profits. And in more recent years, Rudy’s work as an independent has evolved away from the business side of things and into projects as a writer of non-fiction and biographical material. In addition to his feature stories for a local lifestyle magazine and articles for an Indy website documenting historic properties, Rudy has written three books: Above the Waterline, a personal account of his family’s immigration to the United States; The Historic Memorial District of Downtown Indianapolis, a deep look into the origins and the footprint of Indy’s notable collection of monuments and memorials; and Linda – A Full, Happy Life, a heartfelt retrospective on his wife’s late sister, who was born with Down syndrome in 1951. Her story is all about the love and the color she brought to those who were part of her life. Rudy, a native of the Netherlands, lives on the south side of Indianapolis with his wife Cindy, who is a Registered Nurse. They are proud parents of four children, all out living busy, happy lives with families of their own.
