Russell Losco has been a scientist for over 40 years with over 35 years of that in soil science and geology. He began his career in science in primatology studying monkeys on the islands of St. Kitts, Nevis, and Barbados in the West Indies. He is a Certified Professional Soil Scientist and a licensed Professional Geologist, with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology/archaeology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree from West Chester University in geosciences. He is the co-owner of Lanchester Soil Consultants, Inc. and an adjunct professor of Earth Science at West Chester University and Delaware County Community College. His consulting soil consulting work and research has stretched from Alaska to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Peru. His research includes soil genesis in volcanic settings in Central America, soil mapping and classification in tropical settings, anthropogenic influences on soil development, urban soils and periglacial features. He is an author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and is the lead author of The Traveler’s Guide to the Geology of Costa Rica, the PAPSS Manual for Soil Investigation in Pennsylvania and co-author of a chapter in the book Soils and Human Health. He lives in West Grove, PA with his wife, Cindy.
