Russell Vineyard deployed multiple times with 1st Tank Battalion during the Iraq War. The most memorable of these was his deployment on the 13th MEU with 2nd Battalion/1st Marine Division. Russell left the Marines in 2006 as a Sergeant and began pursuing a writing career. He graduated from Chemeketa Community College with an Associate's of Arts Degree in Journalism. He has worked for a number of publications around the state of Oregon including the St. Helens Chronicle, the Baker City Herald, and Salem Weekly. Russell now lives in Salem, Oregon with his wife Jaime and stepson Trevyn Peddicord. Russell began writing Homecoming: Memoirs of a Deployed Marine shortly after discharge.
