S.D. Michaels was born in Denver, Colorado to a Registered Nurse and a Truck Mechanic. In 1977 Michaels moved to the Great Northwest to study Marine Biology Technology and instantly fell in love with the beautiful and tranquil waters of Puget Sound. Labeling himself an environmental enthusiast he has started a battle to help children learn about the world around them. He is the author of a six novelette series called People of Miranda Records but is best known for his World of Valencia novelettes where he uses a make-believe world to talk about our real-world problems, such as pollution, and animal extinction. Since spring 2017 Michaels' books Emily and the Gnomes and Return of the Beastmaster have been placed in many schools in the Greater Seattle area as learning tools for Upper Elementary and Middle schools, teaching environmental stewardship to the students.
