Sean Scott is a general building contractor from San Diego, California. For over 32 years his occupation had been in the construction and restoration industry, primarily repairing homes that were damaged or destroyed by fires, floods, storms, or other types of disaster events. That all changed in 2008. After witnessing first-hand the devastation caused by wildfires that swept through Southern California in 2003 and then again in 2007, which combined destroyed over 6,000 homes and damaged countless others Sean realized that there was an unmet need. Those who had lost their homes, found themselves faced with a daunting task they were totally unprepared to handle — trying to undertake the recovery process on their own. For many this was the beginning of a nightmare and sadly, even today, countless families who had lost everything to these fires, remain unable to return to their homes. It was because of the many heart wrenching stories that came out of this disaster and others like it, that Sean decided to leave the restoration business and embark on a mission to share his disaster recovery experience and create a straight-forward resource guide to help disaster survivors successfully navigate the recovery process. Necessity became the Mother of invention and in 2010 The Red Guide to Recovery - Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors was born.
