Seth Collings Hawkins is an American writer, anthropologist, and physician, with double board certification in Emergency Medicine and EMS. He is the founder and Board Chair of the Appalachian Mountain Rescue Team, the medical director of the North Carolina State Park EMS system, and the Local Emergency Medical Advisor (medical director) for all US Forests (US Forest Service) and National Seashores (National Park Service) in North Carolina. He is the founding editor of iris: the UNC journal of medicine, literature, & visual arts, the Executive Editor of Wilderness Medicine Magazine, a columnist with Emergency Medicine News, and the founder of numerous award-winning organizations and corporations. He is the first physician ever named a Master Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, and is also a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and an inaugural Fellow of the Academy of EMS. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Wake Forest University and works clinically in the Catawba Valley Medical Center Emergency Department. Hawkins lives on the Catawba River in North Carolina below the Linville Gorge Wilderness.
