Sharon Blomfield has been a passionate traveller for all of her adult life, preferring to explore lesser-known corners most often in Europe. After a career in teaching, she turned to her second passion, writing, and soon her stories began to appear in the travel sections of newspapers and magazines in her native Canada, the US and beyond. In 2006, she and her husband Jim chose the Cycladic island of Sifnos for their first time in Greece thinking that, as always, future trips would take them elsewhere. This island, though, had different ideas about that and as they waited for the ferry back to Piraeus at the end of three weeks, she knew two things. They would return to Sifnos some time, that was for certain. And some unseen Muse had just grabbed her by the hand, shaken it quite firmly and was insisting that there was a book here on Sifnos somewhere and she was the one who must write it. "Who … me?" she thought. Then, "No way." But by the time she was back home she'd seen that resistance was futile and her first book, the travel narrative 'The Sifnos Chronicles' was beginning to form itself in her brain. Since then, she and Jim have stepped from the ferry onto that precious Sifnian soil a dozen more times, always to stay for a month, gathering more adventures and friendships each time. She’s written a second book, this one called 'Sifnos Chronicles 2' and has a third underway. She also authors a blog called The Sifnos Chronicler. She and Jim live in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada where he toils in his darkroom to develop the black-and-white photographs he captures on film, to print and later exhibit them.
